The Yaabetz’s ‘Pesach Gadol’ Drashah, First Edition.
Printed in the Author’s Home in Altona, 1775.
Lengthy Shabbos Hagadol Drashah by Yaabetz composed during his tenure as Rav of Emdin in 1730, “In which he clarified over one hundred complex points in a single subject.”
The Yaabetz served as Rav of Emdin for only a brief period of time, after which he resigned from his position and never again accepted another official Rabbinical position. He would often remark in jest, “Baruch shelo asani Av Beis Din, Blessed is He for not making me a rabbi.”
Hagaon Harav Yaakov Emdin (1698-1776), renowned as the Yaabetz, was a brilliant and talented scholar, a genius in the Revealed and Hidden Torah and prolific author. He founded a printing press in his home in order to print and publish his own writings. Surviving books printed in the Yaabetz’s press are highly collectible .
