Handwritten letter by Harav Alter Yisrael Shimon Perlow of Novominsk, author of the Tiferes Ish and grandfather of Harav Yaakov Perlow zt”l, the Novominsker Rebbe of America.
The letter was written on the back of an invitation to the wedding of the Rebbe’s son Harav Aharon Perlow to his niece, the daughter of Harav Yisrael Mordechai of Chatin. The brothers-in-law and mechutanim were both sons-in-law of Harav Baruch Meir Twersky, a scion of the Chernobyl dynasty.
The Novominsker Rebbe Harav Alter Yisrael Shimon Perlow (1874-1933) was the son of Harav Yaakov of Novominsk and renowned for his phenomenal memory and extraordinary diligence. He was revered by his contemporary Polish sages for his deeply emotional and inspirational prayers, fasting and self-abstention. His most famous work is Tiferes Ish.
His son Harav Nachum Mordechai of Novominsk immigrated to the United States and was the father of Harav Yaakov Perlow, the legendary Novominsker Rebbe who served as former President of Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah and passed away several months ago on 13 Nissan, 5780.
The letter was sent to his mechutan Harav Yitzchak Mordechai of Opotchna.
Warsaw, 1927. The invitation was printed in golden letters, and the cover delineates the illustrious lineage of both the chosson and kallah dating back to the greatest Chassidic masters.
Double page. Rough tear which caused loss on printed part of invitation. The letter is entirely intact.
