First Machzor printed in Eretz Yisrael!

This set of machzorim was printed by the famed Jerusalem printer Rabbi Yisrael Beck. In his preface, he vividly describes the destruction of his printing house in Tzfas and the help and financial aid received from Sir Moses Montefoire to reestablish it in Yerushalayim. The first pages of the machzor feature the endorsement of the Rishon Letzion Harav Avraham Chaim Gagin and Harav Yaakov Entebbe, Av Beis Din of Damascus, who describes his miraculous rescue from the Damascus blood libels through Montefiore.

Page 42b features the prayer, “Hanosen teshuah l’melachim, Who grants salvation to kings, ” both in Hebrew and English, in honor of Queen Victoria of England. [Some copies make no mention of the king, while others refer to the king of Turkey.]

Volume 1 features two title pages with attractive borders depicting Yerushalayim.
