Collection of Handwritten Responsa and Letters from Rabbi David Sperber, AB”D of Brashov and author of “Afarkasta D’Anya”

Handwritten collection of responsa and letters from Rabbi David Sperber, ab”d of Brashov, several of which were written on the eve of World War II.

The letters mostly contain Torah novellae, responsa and sermons, and also include personal matters and public affairs.

One of the items included is a long kuntress titled “Shmoa Bein Acheichem, ” and regards the practice in which dayanim hear one side of a dispute before hearing the opposing side.

Also included is a long response addressed to Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich, known as the ‘Gaon of Shimloy’ in which Rabbi David asks whether the blessing of "shehecheyanu" should be recited over the printing of a new book, referring to the upcoming publishing of his sefer "Afarkasta D’Anya."

Rabbi David Sperber’s outstanding humility, greatness and faith are clearly evident in this remarkable collection of letters.

Rabbi David Sperber, known as the ‘Gaon of Brashov ’ was a prominent Romanian rabbi and respondent who lived prior to the Holocaust. He learned Torah by Rabbi Meir Arik, and Chassidus by the Admor Rabbi Moshe Hager of Kossov. In later years, the Admor appointed him to edit his important sefer "Leket Ani." Rabbi David immigrated to Eretz Yisrael where he served as a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah until his passing in 1962.
