Handwritten Letter of Blessing from the Steipler Addressed to Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv; 1965

Letter of blessing in honor of the upcoming holiday of Pesach from the Steipler, addressed to Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.
The Steipler and Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv served as two of the great luminaries of Klal Yisrael and shared a special bond. This bond was cemented by the marriage of the Steipler’s son, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, to Rabbi Yosef Shalom’s daughter.

At the end of the letter, the Steipler writes: “Our concerns are many and over the top…and there is upheaval at home, because we are moving these days from the apartment to a different apartment. May it all be for the good with holiness and purity… Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky.”

Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky (1899-1985), known as “the Steipler, ” was a leading Torah figure of the last generation. His great holiness and piety were evident in all of his actions and he fled honor and glory. The Steipler attributed tremendous importance to the writing of his Torah novellae, most of which is published in sefer Kehillas Yaakov. He would immerse in the mikvah before writing his novellae and he used a special pen just for this purpose. The Steipler invested tremendous efforts to ensure that his words were clear and alluded to the Torah’s truth. The sefarim he authored were widely accepted throughout the Torah world.
