Bohush: "MAY HIS SOUL AWAKEN TO ACCEPT UPON HIMSELF THE COMPLETE YOKE OF HEAVEN AS BEFITS THE HONOR AND GLORY OF HIS HOLY ANCESTORS"

Letter from the Admor Rabbi Yitzchak of Bohush in Honor of His Son’s "Hanachas Tefillin"

The Admor Rabbi Yitzchak of Bohush sent a letter  to his uncle, the Admor Rabbi David Moshe of Chortkov, informing him of his son, Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heschel’s reaching of Bar-Mitzvah age.

In his letter, the Admor writes that his son will be Bar Mitzva on erev Rosh Chodesh Shevat, "and he will begin laying tefillin… May his soul awaken to accept upon himself the complete yoke of Heaven as befits the honor and glory of his holy ancestors."

The Bar Mitzva boy, Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heschel, later became the son-in-law of Rabbi Menachem Nachum of Shtefanesht and served as the Admor of Adjod.

Rabbi Yitzchak of Bohush (1835-1896) was the first Admor of the Bohush dynasty. He was the eldest grandson of the Alter of Ruzhin, son of his firstborn, Rabbi Shalom Yosef of Ruzhin. He grew up in the shadows of his illustrious grandfather and began serving as Admor at the young age of seventeen. His leadership influenced Romanian Jewry tremendously.

The letter was written in the hand of a scribe and signed by the Admor.

Dated Bohush, 1874.
