Manuscript of “Chumash HaGiborim” by Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin, AB”D of Korczyna

Includes Fascinating Description of the Author Appearing to His Son in a Dream

Manuscript of novellae on the parshiyos, handwritten by Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin, ab”d of Korczyna.

A handwritten page from Rabbi Shmuel Aharon’s son is attached to the beginning, describing a dream where his father instructed him what to name this present treatise.

He writes: “…
Two weeks and three days following the passing of my father… I saw him in my dream and I asked him what to name his holy treatises. He told me what to name each one, but I later forgot. I only remember this: that he named his treatise on the Torah, ‘Chumash HaGiborim, ‘ and told me that it is like [the verse]: ‘And Bnei Yisrael went up armed, ‘… so too, the Chumash HaGiborim commentary is the weaponry of the courageous.”

Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin (1823?- 1877) was a disciple of Rabbi Aryeh Dvei Ilai and Rabbi Zev Wolf Frankel, ab”d of Pshevorsk. He was a Chassid of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, who in turn respected and admired him. Rabbi Chaim Sanzer said that Rabbi Shmuel Aharon was "complete in Torah and yirah" and expressed his love for him in his endorsement to Beis Aharon. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon’s son, Rabbi Naftali, later married the daughter of Rabbi Yechezkel of Shinowa, son of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon authored Beis Aharon on Gittin and other important treatises.

Members of the extended Bobov dynasty are counted among Rabbi Shmuel Aharon’s descendants.

This manuscript was pubished in 1996.
