Manuscript: “Yirah V’Ahava, ” Commentary by Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin, AB”D of Korczyna and Prominent Disciple of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz

Deep commentary on Sefer Yerei’im, handwritten by Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin, ab”d of Korczyna.

Sefer Yerei’im is written in the center of the page with the “Yirah” and “Ahava” commentaries written on its two sides. The manuscript includes several additions in the margins.

Rabbi Shmuel Aharon wrote two personal requests on the page before the manuscript begins:

Monday, Rosh Chodesh Nissan, 1876. I asked Hashem that He should help me soon and watch over me with compassion… because I am surrounded from all sides… I will trust in Hashem… and He will assist me.”

Erev Rosh Hashana, 1875. I davened before Hashem that He should assist me quickly, for the sake of His holy Torah…”

This manuscript is a part of a larger treatise Sefer Yerei’im, which was only published for the first time in 1985.

Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rubin was a disciple of Rabbi Aryeh Dvei Ilai and a Chassid of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz, who in turn respected and admired him. Rabbi Chaim Sanzer said that Rabbi Shmuel Aharon was "complete in Torah and yirah" and expressed his love for him in his endorsement to Beis Aharon. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon’s son, Rabbi Naftali, later married the daughter of Rabbi Yechezkel of Shinowa, son of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz. Many members of the extended Bobov dynasty are counted among Rabbi Shmuel Aharon’s descendants. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon authored Beis Aharon on Gittin and other important treatises.

Dated 1875.
