Rabbinic Inaugural Document Awarded to Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Yaakov Gottleib by the City of Miskolc; 1926
Letter of inauguration sent to Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Yaakov Gottleib from the community leaders of the Sephardic community of Miskolc, accepting him as Rabbi of their city.
Written in square script, the letter includes the agreement details regarding his privileges, responsibilities and salary, and is signed by many of the Miskolc community leaders and dignitaries.
Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Yaakov Gottleib (1876 – 1936) was a prominent Torah scholar who led Hungarian Jewry along with the Maharshag and the Gaon of Shimloy. He was a disciple of Rabbi Yoel Tzvi Roth and of the Imrei Yosef of Spinka, and was rabbinically ordained by the Maharsham. He served as rabbi of several Hungarian communities and as Av Beis Din of the Sephardic community of Miskolc beginning in 1926. He authored Yagel Yaakov Responsa , Yagel Yaakov on Torah, homilies and glosses on Talmud, Glosses on all sections of Shulchan Aruch and more.
