Letter from Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Lifshitz addressed to Rabbi Eliyahu Menachem Goitein, Av Beis Din of Hőgyész.
In his letter, Rabbi Aryeh Leibush thanks the addressee for his words of blessing upon the appointment to his new rabbinical position. He also expresses hopes to succeed in his holy mission of raising the crown of Hungarian Jewry.
Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Lifshitz (1836 – 1905) was the son of Rabbi Yitzchak Nathan Lifshits, Av Beis Din of Santov, and son-in-law of the Shemen Rokach. He succeeded his father as Av Beis Din of Santov and was later appointed president of the Orthodox Shomrei Haddas of Ungarn upon the recommendation of the Shevet Sofer. He was active in assisting Hungarian Jewry and fought to sustain the authentic and unedited version of Judaism. He was known as well for his fight against blood libels and against metzitza bapeh.
