Long Letter of Torah Novellae from Rabbi Shlomo Eiger, to His Son, Rabbi Yisrael; Kalish, 1839

Completely handwritten and signed letter of Torah novellae from Rabbi Shlomo Eiger, Av Beis Din of Kalish to his son Rabbi Yisrael.
The letter begins with a plea to his son, instructing him to adhere to his doctor’s orders and drink what was prescribed to him. Rabbi Shlomo gives a Halachic ruling on the matter, stating that there was no prohibition involved in drinking the substance for matters of healing.
The letter continues with three overflowing pages of Torah novella regarding the concept of “chazti shiur.”
Rabbi Shlomo Eiger (1785 – 1852) was the beloved son of the famed Rabbi Akiva Eiger and succeeded him in the Poznań rabbinate. He resided near his father both in Kalish and Poznań and assisted him with the organization of his holy responsa. His nephew, the Ksav Sofer, eulogized him saying: "On these I weep today, a double weeping for the father and his son… for until now it was as though he (Rabbi Akiva Eiger) had not died… and now we lost him and his son and it is as though they died together."
