Sefer Beis Yitzchak Personal Copy of the ‘Yismach Moshe’, Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum
Sefer Beis Yitzchak on Hilchos treifos authored by Rabbi Yitzchak ben Rabbi Eliezer of Munkatch.
This first edition was published in Ofen, 1827 and won immediate acclaim. It was used extensively and often quoted among dayanim, rabbis and shochtim.
This present copy belonged to the Yismach Moshe who personally received it from the author himself.
The author, the Beis Yitzchak, inscribed a dedication in the upper part of the title page.
He writes: “A gift from me, the author, to the Rabbi… who is well known, Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum, Av Beis Din and Rosh Mesivta of the Ohel community…”
This present copy includes hundreds of handwritten comments, remarks and novellae on the page margins. (In our opinion not from the hand of the Yishmach Moshe)
Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum (1759 – 1841) famed author of the Yismach Moshe, was a leading scholar of his time and one of the celebrated teachers of Chassidus in Hungary. He is the patriarch of the Sighet-Satmar dynasty and was known as a wondrous miracle-worker. It is told that when the Ksav Sofer himself took ill, his father the Chassam Sofer sent word to the Yismach Moshe to pray on his behalf.
