Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin (1887 – 1933) was the Av Beis Din of Piotrków and Lublin and the famed Rosh Yeshiva of the prestigious Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin. After instituting the Daf HaYomi, his name became synonymous with the Daf HaYomi throughout the world. Rabbi Meir was also one of the founders of the Agudas Yisrael and a loyal delegate of the Polish parliament. Although he passed away childless, Rabbi Meir would say that he had two children: The Daf HaYomi and Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin.
