Splendid Set : First Edition Three Parts Responsa Mahari ben-Lev; Salonika – Constantinople, 1557 – 1573.

Three parts of Responsa Mahari ben-Lev containing important responsa and novellae from Rabbi Yosef ben-Lev. This volume, authored by an acharon, is one of the earliest responsas published.
All three parts are rare first editions.

Rabbi Yosef ben-Lev (1500 – 1580) was a leading Sephardic Halachic authority who lived during the times of the Beis Yosef. The Chida writes that there were three chachamim named "Yosef" in the generation of the Beis Yosef, all of whom were worthy of compiling the Shulchan Aruch: Rabbi Yosef Karo, Rabbi Yosef ben-Lev and Rabbi Yosef Taitazak.
(Part four was later published in Kurucesme, 1598 , is of utmost rarity and not available here).
