Letter of Torah novellae handwritten in Lashon HaKodesh and German by Rabbi Menachem Deutsch, Av Beis Din of Palanka.
At the start of the letter, Rabbi Menachem apologizes for his delayed response, explaining that he had been gone for medical reasons and had faced a myriad of community matters upon his return. He writes: "Believe me that the rabbi in a small community, he is the judge, he is the witness, the writer and the scribe…"

Rabbi Menachem Deutsch (1819 – 1904) was raised in the home of his grandfather, Rabbi David Deutsch. He studied by his uncle, the Maharam Ash, and the Ksav Sofer. He served as Av Beis Din of Galante until 1856, whereupon he became Av Beis Din of Palanka, serving in this capacity until his passing. He brought his grandfather’s sefer Ohel David to print.
