Letter from Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Tiktinsky of Mir addressed to his son, Rabbi Avraham Tiktinsky.
"I have come to inform you of the yeshiva’s welfare; that it is leaning its head upwards. May G-d grant it success so that they should be able to learn in it securely, and may the disciples strengthen in their learning…"
The letter begins with the well being of the yeshiva and veers off to family matters. At the end of his letter, Rabbi Chaim Leib writes a short response to a novella which Rabbi Avraham had written to him. Rabbi Chaim Leib writes that during the long winter, "This question was for Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor while he was in Novardok, and he responded by way of a letter…"
Rabbi Chaim Leib Tiktinsky (1823 – 1899) was the Rosh Yeshiva of Mir for upwards of fifty years. He taught thousands of disciples, many of whom went on to become prominent Torah leaders. He was renowned as one of the greatest Torah lecturers and Rabbi Yisrael Salant would say: "One who wished to understand a page of Gemara כדבעי, should go to Rabbi Chaim Leib to Mir."
Rabbi Avraham Tiktinsky (1855 – 1931) was the son of Rabbi Chaim Leib. He began discoursing in the yeshiva beginning in 1883.
