Letter of thanks from Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor of Kovno, addressed to Rabbi Dov Speirs, Dayan of London, "upon your precious efforts for the sake of upholding the holiness of the Torah, by supporting the… Torah scholars here in our community, because it is a great and holy matter…"
Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan is referring to the Perushim Kollel, known as well as the Kovno Kollel, which was led by him.
The letter is entirely written and signed by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan and includes a rare, impressive stamp from him.
The Kovno Kollel was founded in 1877 with the assistance of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter and the Alter of Slabodka. The Kovno Kollel, which was in Slabodka, a suburb of Kovno, was the foundation for the eventual establishment of the Slabodka Yeshiva.

Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor (1817 – 1896) was a rabbinical giant who made his mark on Lithuanian Jewry in the past generation. Known for his sharp mind, all complicated halachic matters were directed to him. He served as Rabbi of Kovno beginning in the year 1864, and from 1877 presided over the Perushim Kollel in Kovno.
