‘Nefesh Hachaim’,   containing fundamentals of the Torah and avodas Hashem authored by Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, disciple of the Vilna Gaon and rabbi and renowned Rosh Yeshivah of the Vlozhin Yeshivah.

This first edition  was brought to print in Vilna and Horadna, 1824 by his son and future successor, Rabbi Itzele of Volozhin. In his introduction, Rabbi Itzele praises his father and describes his life story.
The sefer Nefesh Chaim was immediately accepted as a fundamental sefer that is learned in all the Lithuanian yeshivos. In it, Rabbi Chaim discusses the importance of Torah which stands at the peak of Judaism and the meaning of true dveikus and Torah lishma.
