Classics: First Edition Chachmas Adam; Vilna 1815

Rare first edition sefer Chachmas Adam from Rabbi Avraham Danzig of Vilna, author of Chayei Adam. The sefer includes halachic rulings and novellae regarding matters of issur v’hetter and other Halachos of Yoreh Dei’ah.

Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin’s endorsement is published on the actual title page and he writes of sefer Chayei Adam’s popularity. Indeed, Chayei Adam was embraced across Lithuania and beyond, and looked upon as a thorough Halachic source.

"
Chayei Adam and Chachmas Adam are very respectable sefarim, and since they were spread amongst klal Yisrael, they were published and republished several times; a sign that the author’s intentions were pleasant in Heaven." (- Sdei Chemed)

This first edition was published in Vilna, 1815.

Sefer Binas Adam is published at the end of the sefer, regarding the laws of majorities and various responsa . In the title page of Binas Ha’adam, Rabbi Avraham Danzig writes that he very rarely brings down the words of the Gr"a, since he heard people were astounded that he quoted the Gr"a in his previous sefarim and commented or disagreed with him. He writes, that these people were surely unfamiliar with the way one learned Torah as this most certainly brought the Vilna Gaon much nachas ruchach. He wrote similarly in his sefer Chachmas Adam, but was forced to censor his words and print a new page.
