Rare Letter from Rabbi Shmuel Fuhrer, Av Beis Din of Krosno

"You are receiving from me a heter hora’ah
as you requested. And that which you asked to receive a heter hora’ah
from the Rabbi of Radomyśl or from the Rabbi of Dukla, you should believe me that I wish to fulfill your desire, but it is not within my capacity to act by them."

Rabbi Shmuel Fuhrer was the Av Beis Din of Krosno and one of the great pedagogical lecturers of Galicia. A child prodigy, he was recognized in his youth for his sharp mind and exceptional grasp of knowledge. At age twenty he became rabbi after which his name quickly spread as a tremendous Torah scholar and pedagogue. He later became Rosh Mesivta in the great city of Krakow and finally Av Beis Din of Krosno. Young men would frequent his home to be tested on the laws of
issur v’heter and
shchita (slaughtering) and receive rabbinic ordination from him. During the years of the Holocaust he hid out in various locations until his final capture and murder. He authored Har Shefer on tractate Horiyus (Bardejov, 1922).
