Beautiful handwritten letter from Rabbi Menachem Mendel Paneth regarding monetary assistance to residents of Tzfas, Deyzh 1879.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel established Kollel Ahavas Tzion – Ziebenbergen and sent much money to Eretz Yisrael. This letter exposes his direct involvement with each and every aspect of Chassidic settlemen in Tzfas.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel also notes a long list of Jews of Tzfas who had received his financial support.
Rabbi Menachem Mendel Paneth
(1817 – 1884) was the son of the Mareh Yechezkel. He studied in the Chassam Sofer’s yeshiva for five years becoming one of his prized disciples. After his marriage, he relocated to Oheli where he formed a close relationship with the Yismach Moshe. He served as Av Beis Din of Deyzh and established a leading yeshiva, from where prominent Torah leaders emanated. He authored many voluminous
sefarim, including the well-known Responsa Ma’aglei Tzeddek on Torah.
