Holy Letter Signed by the Great Maggid of Tolna, Founder of the Tolna Dynasty

Short letter handwritten and signed by the holy Rabbi David Twersky of Tolna.

Rabbi David of Tolna
(1808 – 1882), founder of the Tolna dynasty, was the son of Rabbi Mordechai of Chernobyl. He was named for his maternal grandfather, Rabbi David Laikes, a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. Following the passing of his father, he led a following first in Wasilkow and later in Tolna, where his courtyard quickly became one of the largest Chassidic centers in the Ukraine. His work was published in Magen David (Zhitomir, 1852 – see lot below), Birchas David (Zhitomir, 1872) and Kehillas David (Lublin, 1882).
