Remnant Leaves of Talmud Bavli Tractate Yevamos Inscribed on Parchment, 13th Century

Two parts of a parchment leaf from tractate Yevamos that had been written during the time period of the
rishonim; some two hundred years prior to the establishment of the printing press.

The text is an excerpt from tractate Yevamos (104a – 106a in printed editions). It does not include the Mishna as during this period the Mishna was written at the start of the chapter followed by the entire Gemara in sequence. Compared to existing texts, there are several discrepancies between the passages.

There are two columns on each page written in square Ashkenazi script dating back to the thirteenth century. This date was determined by manuscript experts from the National Library.

The page is cut across its width for binding purposes with the two parts almost making up the complete original page, save for one missing strip from the center of the page containing several lines.
Each page: approx. 18 x 29 cm | Almost completely intact | One side completely legible, other side worn and erased
