Polemics: Sefer Petach Einayim Authored by the Yaavetz Against Sefer Luchos Eidus, Altona 1756

Pamphlet authored by Rabbi Yaakov Emden countering a letter from the Noda B’Yehuda which had been printed in
sefer Luchos Ha’eidus from Rabbi Yonassan Eibeshitz.

The Noda B’Yehuda’s letter regarded the matter of kameyos, and being that the paragraphs in that letter all end in the letter "
ayin, " Rabbi Yaakov Emden titled this compilation "Petach Einayim."

This booklet includes: The Noda B’Yehuda’s letter along with Rabbi Yaakov’s sharply worded expostulations; a letter from the Pnei Yehoshua addressed to Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Amsterdam; the excommunication document from the Bradt
chachamim; testimony and exact text of the amulet owned by the daughter of Kalman Tzel of Hamburg; and a prayer composed by Rabbi Yonassan Eibeshitz in honor of Queen Juliana, wife of King Fredrick the Fifth, in which Rabbi Yaakov found Sabbatean hints.

This pamphlet is a continuation of Rabbi Yaakov’s sefer Shviras Luchos Ha’on, written in opposition to Luchos Eidus.

This
sefer was published in Altona, 1755, in the author’s home.
