Fascinating  Question Including Long Handwritten Response from Rabbi Eliezer Zussia Portugal of Skulen

Long halachic question and response from the holy Rabbi Eliezer Zussia Portugal of Skulen, addressed to Rabbi Shalom Dermer, ab”d of Tagniametz.

Background: The Admor of Skulen raised an adopted daughter, treating her as his own. Prior to her wedding, a question arose regarding which name should be listed as the father on the kesuba: the Admor or the biological father?

In the present letter, the Admor delves into the intricacies of the pertaining halachos and suggests a practical solution to the matter as well.

The final eighteen lines of the letter were handwritten and signed by the holy Admor himself.

Rabbi Eliezer Zusia Portugal (1898-1982) was a tremendous Torah scholar and prominent admor who was close to the admorim of the Ruzhin dynasty. He served as rabbi of Skulen, Romania, and later moved to Chernowitz, where he established a beis midrash, becoming one of the Chassidic leaders of his generation. He actively assisted his Jewish brethren in Romania, specifically refugee children. While his home was poverty stricken, it was open to all. He eventually fled Romania to the United States where he established Torah institutions and became one of the most influential admorim in the post Holocaust generation.
