Invitation from the Admor- Rabbi David Borenstein of Sochatchov, with the Admor’s Personal Handwritten Invite; 1930

Invitation to the wedding of the Admor- Rabbi David Bornstein of Sochatchov’s son, which took place in Zamosc, 1930.

On the verso of the invitation is an additional written and signed letter addressed to his brother, the Admor Rabbi Chanoch Henoch. In his letter, Rabbi David expresses his dismay that his brother would be unable to participate in the celebration and requests that he pray for the young couple at the Western Wall.

Rabbi Chanoch Henoch immigrated to Eretz Yisrael in 1925 and served as Admor of Sochatchov following the Holocaust.

Rabbi David Bernstein of Sochatchov (1856-1943) was a renowned Polish admor and leading rabbi of the Holocaust generation. He was a son of the Shem Mishmuel and a prized disciple of his grandfather, the Avnei Nezer, who remarked: "My grandson has an all-encompassing mind…" He established a yeshiva in Lodz which he named after his grandfather, where learning took place in the unique Sochatchov style. During the war years, he heartened his followers and avidly encouraged people to escape the Nazis. He passed away in the Warsaw Ghetto.
