Greeting letter and Torah novellae by Hagaon Harav Eliyahu Kletzkin to his father Hagaon Harav Naftali Hertz Kletzkin, who was a disciple of the Chasam Sofer and author of Ayalah Shluchah.

The letter was written when the author was all of 19 and being supported by his father-in-law in Shklov. Despite his youth, Harav Eliyahu was already reputed as a genius and exceedingly pious, and his father-in-law availed him use of his private study, guarding the door to ensure that no one disturbed the young scholar in the midst of his learning. During this period of time, Harav Eliyahu grew close to Maharil Diskin, the legendary Rav of Shklov. (He was buried near Maharil Diskin on Jerusalem’s Mount of Olives.)

Hagaon Harav Eliyahu Kletzkin, Av Beis Din of Lublin, (1852-1932) was described by Harav Meir Shapiro as “The glory and splendor of the generation, no secret is concealed from him, and he is world-acclaimed for his Torah and piety.” He was an undisputed genius and delivered many halachic rulings regarding agunos following World War I. In 1925, he journeyed to Eretz Yisrael where he was immediately appointed one of the leading Rabbanim in Yerushalayim.
