Letter by Harav Yaakov Zalman Livschitz, Founder of Brisk Yeshivos and Right Hand of Rav Chaim Brisker, 1911.
Hagaon Harav Yaakov Zalman Livschitz of Brisk (d. 1915) was the son of the Bris Yaakov. A brilliant Torah scholar and the right-hand of Rav Chaim Brisker, he was the legendary ‘Father of Brisker Yeshivos’ who established the famous Toras Chesed Yeshivah in the town of Brisk along with other yeshivos and chadarim. He corresponded frequently with all gedolei hador of his generation, and his Torah novellae were published in many of their sefarim.
One of his famous writings appears in Kuntress Divrei Chachamim which was published at the end of Shu”t Divrei Eliyahu. At the end, his brother-in-law Harav Eliyahu Kletzkin writes “I wish to draw the attention of my readers to carefully peruse this kuntress of my brother-in-law, the genius and celebrated Torah scholar and fearer of heaven [who is] sharp, wise, and endeavors mightily to disseminate Torah among Israel…who delved into and expounded with beautiful words…”
