The Spinka Rebbe of Yerushalayim Harav Yosef Meir Kahana’s Siddur Taharas Hashem with Sheimos Hashem

Siddur Taharas Hashem follows the nusach printed in Slavita, which spells out the Holy Names of Hashem Hav-a-ya and Adnus. This siddur was the personal prayerbook of the Spinka Rebbe of Yerushalayim, Harav Yosef Meir Kahana.

The blank page before the title page features two of the Rebbe’s stamps, one detailing his sacred lineage which includes Spinka, Ziditchov, Premishlan, the Yismach Moshe, Radoshitz, Kozhnitz, and Lizhensk.

The siddur also contains a handwritten list of names for prayers, along with kvittelach, notes and amendments, presumably in the Rebbe’s handwriting.
The Spinka Rebbe
Harav Yosef Meir Kahana (1910-1978) was the great-grandson of the Imrei Yosef, progenitor of the Spinka Chassidic dynasty. He was named for his illustrious great-grandfather and was said to have borne an extraordinary physical resemblance to him. He absorbed the tenets of chassidus from his uncle Harav Yitzchak Isaac of Spinka, and was an exceptional baal tefillah who drew multitudes to his Holy Court to hear his heartrending prayers. He received semichah at a young age, and in 1936, was appointed Rosh Yeshivah in Seredna.

In 1941, he escaped on the last boat that set out from Europe to the Holy Land, where he founded Yeshivas Imrei Yosef in Yerushalayim. His sons, sons-in-law and grandchildren have served and continue serving as Rebbes and Rabbanim around the world.
