Exciting Discovery! Comments by the Rogotchover upon Kabbalistic Asara Maamaros by the Rema of Pano
Handwritten comments by the Rogotchover Hagaon Harav Yosef Razin, Av Beis Din of Dvinsk and author of Tzafnas Pa’aneach, upon sefer Asara Maamaros by the holy kabbalist Harav Menachem Azarya (Rema) of Pano.
Marginalia scattered throughout the sefer reveal 11 handwritten comments, some quite lengthy (Volume 1 leaves 32a, 36b, 45a, 85a, 116b, 124a, 130b, 141a; Volume 2 leaves 38a, 63a). His writings expound upon the parameters of the discussed topics and note the Rambam’s opinion (85a, 130b).
The Rogotchover’s legacy encompasses many notes and comments upon Shas, Rambam and Shulchan Aruch, yet until now, there was never any known sefer by an Achron with his handwritten comments.
This is the first and only known work from the Achronim period with the Rogotchover’s comments.
The Rogotchover’s extensive writings offer little evidence that he engaged in the study of kabbalah, yet this present discovery proves that he mastered the Hidden Torah and even wrote comments on this acclaimed kabbalistic work of the Rema of Pano.
