Tikkunei Shabbos by Harav Avraham Halevi, Disciple of the Arizal
Rabbi Avraham Halevi Bruchim numbered among the exalted kabbalists in the holy city of Tzfas. A disciple of the Ramak and Arizal, many of his teachings and praises of the Arizal appear throughout the writings of the Rabbi Chaim Vital and other renowned kabbalistic works as Reishis Chochmah and Sefer Charedim.
The Arizal himself was effusive in his praises of his disciple, and Rabbi Chaim Vital prolifically inscribed Rabbi Avraham Halevi’s praises in Shaar Hagilgulim, noting that his soul was rooted in that of Yaakov Avinu. The Chida likewise wrote in Shem Hagedolim that Rabbi Avraham Halevi glimpsed the Divine Presence face to face at the Western Wall.
In the preface of Tikkunei Shabbos, the editor Harav Yitzchak Gershon, a disciple of the Alshich, states:
These are the Tikkunei Shabbos taught by the chacham and chassid Harav Avraham Halevi Hazaken, one of the illustrious kabbalists who learned from the Arizal… Throughout his life, he was a great guardian of Shabbos, declaring and cautioning the nation, men and women, to safeguard and observe its laws. Throughout his days, prior to every Shabbos, he would wind his way through the marketplace, streets, homes and courtyards from midnight of Thursday and until midday on Friday to urge the nation to prepare for Shabbos, encourage women to rise early to bake, and men to close their stores before Shabbos.
