Mesilas Yesharim by Ramchal. First Edition. Amsterdam, 1740.

Classic:The Path of the Just – Code of Jewish Ethics by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto (Ramchal)

This monumental work was published by the Ramchal upon his arrival from Padua to Amsterdam. It has since seen over one hundred subsequent editions, many featuring dozens of commentaries on the Ramchal’s text. This first, rare edition was published by the author himself.

Jewish sages and Torah luminaries throughout the ages extolled the writings of the Ramchal, describing, “Just as the Rambam concentrated the entire Torah into a single work of halachah, so Mesilas Yesharim concentrates all virtues into a single sefer. With his sacred spirit, he imbued in it all rules and aspects regarding fear of heaven and service of G-d; and though it appears that the book was written to be understood by the layman, it is known that the profound dimensions of this sefer encapsulate the kabbalistic Torah of the Ramchal.”

Amsterdam, 1740. First edition. [6] 63 leaves. Page size: 16.5 cm. Lightly restored title page and several other pages. Pages cut unevenly; otherwise in very good condition. Attractive leather binding with case.

Mesilas Yesharim
The Ramchal’s epic Mesilas Yesharim is universally accepted as the primary work of Torah ethics. The Vilna Gaon declared that from the day it was published, “A new light descended upon the world” and that the book does not contain a single redundant or extra word.
