Manuscript: Original “Goren David Responsa” Handwritten by Author and Disciples

Large volume including 70 responsa from Rabbi Aharon David Deutsch, author of Goren David, handwritten by the author and his disciples.

The volume includes various exchanges with leading Hungarian rabbis.
Rabbi Aharon David Deutsch’s students listed their names on the inner cover and flyleaf.

Some of the names included: his grandson, Rabbi Noach Yaakov Deutsch; Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Spitzer, ab”d Miskolc and Hamburg; Rabbi Yitzchak Lorentz, ab”d Nagyoroszi; Rabbi Zelig Greenfield (likely the father of Rabbi Moshe Chaim Greenfield, ab”d Saint Peter); Zev Weiss and David Kaufman among others.

Rabbi Aharon David Deutsch (1813-1878) was the ab”d of Balassagyarmat and author of Goren David. He was a leading disciple of the Chassam Sofer who greatly admired him. The Chassam Sofer remarked that he relied on the prayers of the Goren David and that he was “invited to Olam HaBah.” The Ksav Sofer greatly admired him as well. It is said that whenever he visited Pressburg, the Ksav Sofer would go out to greet him adorned in his Shabbos clothing.

While this manuscript contains over 70 responsa, many additional responsa are missing from this volume. The handwriting is not continuous and a few responsa are incomplete.
