Personal Copy of “Chovos HaLevavos” Belonging to the Saintly Brothers, the Pachad Yitzchak of Boyan and the Ohr Yisrael of Sadigura

Sefer Chovas HaLevavos, Part Two; owned and used by the Pachad Yitzchak of Boyan and his brother Rabbi Yisrael of Sadigura.

This sefer (lacking the final 5 leaves) features Yiddish commentary and includes sefer Marpeh L’Nefesh.

The Admors’ majestic seals are on the title page. Their seals bears a depiction of a crouching lion, symbolizing the Kingdom of David HaMelech, predecessor of the Ruzhin dynasty. The sefer was later passed on to the Pachad Yitzchak’s son, the Admor Rabbi Mordechai Shlomo of Boyan, who is the grandfather of the present Admor of Boyan. His seal can be found following the title page.

Rabbi Yitzchak of Boyan (1849–1917) was the son of Rabbi Avraham Yaakov of Sadigura, grandson of Rabbi Yisrael of Ruzhin. He was well-known for his tremendous reverence of G-d and deep devotion which instilled fear in all those around him, hence the title "Pachad Yitzchak." Following his father’s passing, he first lived with his brothers in Sadigura, eventually moving to the city of Boyan in 1886 where he founded the Boyan dynasty. He fled to Vienna at the onset of World War I and remained
there until his passing in 1917.

Rabbi Yisrael of Sadigura (1853-1907) was a brilliant Torah scholar and admor to thousands. His holy father attested that he possessed a soul like Rabbi Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev.

Rabbi Mordechai Shlomo of Boyan (1891-1971) was the son of the Pachad Yitzchak and succeeded his position as admor following his passing. He served as the president of the Agudas Yisrael in the United States and was a member of the Mo’etzes Gedolei HaTorah. He is the grandfather of the present day Admor of Boyan.
