Letter from Kalonymus Kalman Shapira of Piaseczno, Author of Chovas HaTalmidm; Warsaw – Poland, 1924

Signed letter from the Admor Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira of Piaseczno addressed to his followers in Radom.
The letter informs his followers of the engagement of his son, Rabbi Elimelech Benzion, to the daughter of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Perlow of Bolchov (of the Novominsk Dynasty).
The groom, Rabbi Benzion Elimelech was killed during the holiday of Sukkos. Those who were present testified that despite the terrible news, the Admor insisted that "It is a holiday today, we must be happy!"

Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira (1889 – 1943) was the son of Rabbi Elimelech of Grodzisk, a descendant of the Maggid of Kozhnitz. Already in his twenties he was appointed Admor and Rabbi of Piaseczno and at the age of thirty-four established the large yeshiva in Warsaw. Towards the end of his life, he was relocated to the Warsaw Ghetto where he exercised remarkable mesirus nefesh for mitzvah observance. Even during that dark period he delved into his learning and writings. His final novellae were recorded while in the Lublin labor camp.
His sefarim on education, Chovas Hatalmidim and Hachsharas Haavreichim won him world acclaim. He recorded his Drashos titled Aish Kodesh from the years 1941 – 1944; these were assumed lost and miraculously discovered during excavation in Warsaw.
