of Chenstechov, Author of the Famed Pischei She’arim; Poland, 1850

Handwritten and signed letter from Rabbi Yissachar Ber of Częstochowa, world renowned for his sefer Pischei Shearim. Rabbi Yissachar Ber’s letter is addressed to the chief rabbinate of Metz, France, and regards urgent matters of their Jewish brethren in Poland. 

“…To benefit the residents of Poland who live under siege… and as I heard from… Rabbi Akiva Eiger, ztz”l, Av Beis Din of Posen, [he] wrote two letters to the Sir [Rothschild] and did not receive any response, and it seems obvious that the letters are in strange hands.”
An additional two letters are accompanied along with the Pischei Shearim letter.
Rabbi Refael Zev HaLevi Lewenthal: Son-in-law of the Chemdas Shlomo and son of Rabbi Chaim Moshe HaLevi of Lissa.

Rabbi Chaim Moshe HaLevi of Lissa: Av Beis Din of Prashka, son-in-law of his uncle, the Pischei Shearim. In his letter, Rabbi Chaim Moshe details his lineage.
This leaf contains three separate letters in total.

Rabbi Yissachar Ber Weingort (1789 – 1852) was the son of Rabbi Efraim HaLevi, Av Beis Din of Kvil, one of the prominent Torah scholars of Poland. He taught Torah and held back-and-forth Torah discussions with the great rabbis of his generation. Rabbi Yissachar Ber was a disciple of Rabbi Chaim Auerbach, author of Divrei Mishpat. His novellae are published in sefer Pischei Shearim on Talmud, Torah and Pirkei Avos. He was the father of Rabbi Michael Dov Weingort, author of ‘Agudas Eizov MiDvori.’
