Rabbi Yoel of Satmar’s Travel Ticket from His Trip to the United States; 1956

Original travel ticket issued to the Admor Rabbi Yoel of Satmar and his wife, to set sail from Haifa to Switzerland, en route to the United States.

The Admor was returning from his trip to Eretz Yisrael.

Following the founding of the State of Israel, Rabbi Yoel of Satmar visited Eretz Yisrael four times in order to strengthen the Chareidi education system there and assist in the fight against drafting women, autopsies, and more.

The main focus of his trip was to influence religious Jews against voting in the government elections. As such, most of his visits to Eretz Yisrael were scheduled close to elections.

The Admor traveled on the Italian Adriatica ship. The Admor would only travel on foreign boats since he did not want to travel on a boat that sailed on Shabbos with Jewish staff.
