Autograph Letter of Torah Novellae from Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer; Berlin, 1874
Handwritten and signed letter from Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer, addressed to Rabbi Eliyahu Menachem Goitein, Av Beis Din of Hőgyész.
While the majority of the letter contains Torah novellae, Rabbi Azriel writes at the end of his letter:
‘ועל דבר מכתבי עמל של ראש החיצונים לפנים ממדינתינו ולע"ע בעיה"ק ירושלים תוב"ב והספר שהוציאו נגדו, הנה שמעתי משניהם ולא ראיתי אף אחד ואני סילקתי עצמי מכל וכל מענינים האלו… וכל האחריות על חילול ה’ הלא על כל המחברים בכל עת החובלים בכרם ד’ צבאות…’
Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer (1820-1899) was a renowned rabbinical leader, rabbi of the Adas Yisrael community in Berlin and founder of the Rabbinical Beis Midrash in Berlin. He dedicated his life to his Jewish brethren and their spiritual lives. His manuscripts were published in Chiddushim Uteshuvos Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer.
