Manuscript: Handwritten Treatises by the Tzaddik Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald, AB”D of Satmar

Handwritten manuscript from Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald, ab”d of Satmar, with novellae on fundamental Talmudic topics (such as mitzvos tzrichos kavana, mitoch shehutra l’tzorech, kinyon peiros, mediation and others).

At the beginning of the manuscript Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald wrote a heartfelt prayer: “… Please bestow upon me wisdom and intelligence… teach me Your laws… and may I not stumble in the matter of Halacha and not be ashamed… May Your name be sanctified and blessed through me…”

Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald wrote these novellae while serving as rabbi in Shoran.
It is noted on page 79a that these novellae were recited in Kislev, 1889, at a siyum on tractate Beitza on the yahrtzeit of Rabbi Chizkiya Feivel Plaut, ab”d of Shoran and author of Likutei Chaver ben Chaim.

A handwritten index is included at the beginning of the manuscript.

Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald (1867-1928) was the ab”d of Satmar and a leading Hungarian rabbi. He was a close disciple of the Chassam Sofer and studied under the Goren David and Imrei David as well. He led one of the largest yeshivos in all of Hungary. He authored Shevet MiYehuda and She’eiris Yehuda on the Chamisha Chumshei Torah, Alolos Yehuda on Tehillim and Responsa Zichron Yehuda– three parts.
