Polemics: First Edition Sefer Luchos Eidus by Rabbi Yonassan Eibeshitz, Altona 1755

Letters and manuscripts from leading rabbis and kabbalists attesting to the pious character of Rabbi Yonassan Eibeshits, strongly insisting that adverse claims brought against him were unfounded.
Upon the arrival of Rabbi Yonassan in Altona, several instances of women’s death at childbirth occurred. In response, Rabbi Yonassan distributed amulets, thus stopping the phenomenon.
However, after inspecting one such amulet, Rabbi Yaakov Emden suspected that it might contain Sabbatean hints and went out strongly against him, pulling the rest of the Diaspora into this controversy.
In an attempt to disprove the allegations, Rabbi Yonassan sent the amulets along with their explanations to various leaders of the generation, specifically to the great Kabbalists of his time. He mostly received their support, following which he published this
sefer containing their letters. The Vilna Gaon’s letter of support is printed on page 71B of the sefer.
