Letter from Rabbi Chaim Betzalel Paneth; Tășnad, 1866

Handwritten and signed letter from Rabbi Betzalel Panet affirming that a fellow had been divorced Halachically in his Beis Din, showing surprise that another letter was being requested after he had already provided the divorcee with a letter at the time of his divorce.

Rabbi Chaim Betzalel Paneth of Tășnad (1803 – 1874) was the eldest son of the Mareh Yechezkel of Deyzh. He studied under the tutelage of the Chasam Sofer who recognized his greatness and accorded him much admiration. In 1835 he was appointed Rabbi of Tășnad and its environs, serving in this capacity for forty years until his passing. In the true path of the Chasam Sofer, Rabbi Chaim Betzalel was an avid opponent of any changes to authentic Judaism and zealously fought assimilation. His novellae were published in the sefarim Derech Yivchar, Yam Harachav, Otzar Chaim and Dibros Eish.
