Holy Signature of Rabbi Hillel Kolomaya on Sefer Kesses HaSofer

Sefer Kesses Hasofer authored by Rabbi Shlomo Ganzfried, Av Beis din of Ungvar, including a signature from Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomyya.
Kesses Hasofer details the laws of writing a sefer Torah, tefillin and mezuzos. In his endorsement of the sefer, the Chasam Sofer writes that he would now instruct his disciples to permit scribes to practice only after having first been tested on the contents of this sefer.
The sefer also includes a seal from Rabbi Hillel’s son, Rabbi Yonassan David Lichtenstein.
This first edition was published in Ofen, 1835, and is bound along with sefer Yipach LeKetz and Peleh Yoetz. Peleh Yoetz bears the additional seal of his son.

Rabbi Hillel Lichtenstein of Kolomyya (1814 – 1891) was a leading Hungarian rabbi and a close disciple of the Chasam Sofer. Following the Chasam Sofer’s passing, he frequently traveled to Rabbi Chaim of Sanz who held him in high regard. He was known for his fights against the reformers of Judaism and was afraid of no one. His novellae are published in the sefarim Maskil el Dal, Mikrei Dardaki, Shirei Maskil, Eis Laasos and others.
