Letter from the Famed Rabbi Avraham Grodzinsky, Slabodka 1938

Long, handwritten letter from Rabbi Avraham Grodzinsky of Slabodka addressed to Rabbi Reuven Katz, Av Beis Din of Petach Tikva.

In his letter, Rabbi Avraham inquires regarding Rabbi Chatzkel Levenstein’s decision whether or not to remain in Petach Tikva. He also suggests other options to serve as mashgiach of the Lomza yeshiva in Petach Tikva.

Rabbi Avraham Gordzinsky (1882 – 1944) was a prominent leader of the
mussar movement. He was a prized disciple of the Alter of Slabodka who sent him to Eretz Yisrael along with Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna, where they founded the yeshiva in Chevron. He eventually returned to Slabodka and later succeeded the Alter as Rosh Yeshiva, serving in this capacity until the rise of the Nazi regime.
