Important Sefer of Utmost Rarity: First Edition Tapuchei Zahav, Alshich’s Commentary on Tehillim, Kurucesme 1597

Rare, first edition of Rabbi Moshe Alshich’s commentary on Tehillim, Tapuchei Zahav, commentating on Psalms 1-41. Published in in Kurucesme, a suburb near Constantinople (1597 – 1598), it was
printed in the prestigious press of Don Josef Nasi’s widow, Dona Reyna, by publisher Yitzchak Ashkeloni.

It seems that only two additional full copies of Tapuchei Zahav are known to exist besides this one. Jerusalem’s National Library does not house a complete copy and the Mehlman collection includes a copy with only ten leaves (Ginzei Yisrael 636).

Walmedona-Luntzer collection

[80] Leaves | 19 cm | Minor holes on lower margins and bottom blank of title page, professionally restored | New leather binding | Exceptionally rare

This is Moshe, the man who was known in the gates of the elite – the head of the preachers and the commentators… and none could be found like him in all the commentaries of the commentators.”
