Manuscript: Seder Slichos, Hoshanos and Piyutim According to Ancient Castile Tradition
Beautiful Manuscript in Artistic Binding, 1788

"Order of slichos that are said on each night following the maariv
prayer, from the evening of Rosh Chodesh Av until the day of Yom Kippur; and the order of hakafos
for the day of Hoshana Rabbah as per the custom of the Castile community, and choruses for Chassan Torah and Breishis for Simchas Torah; the order of pitum heketores
… and the order of mincha
for a fast day."

Throughout the eras, Spain underwent numerous divisions under its various rulerships, resulting in unique differences in the practiced customs of its many Jewish communities. The four main customs practiced were those of the Castile, Catalonia, Aragon and Portugal communities. Of these, Castilian customs differ most from the others, specifically in the small number of
piyutim they recite.

In the prayer of Avinu Shebashamayim, there is an added section that gives historic glimpse into the world of Spanish Jewry under Christian rule: "
Our Father in heaven, place it in the heart of the Pope, and in the hearts of all his advisers and officers and chiefs and leaders, mercy to do us good."

The manuscript is written in beautiful, square punctuated handwriting and begins with an illustrated title page baring a decorative border. There is a holy text for a
shul on leaf 2 with a decorative border as well.

Owner’s inscription, L.D.R, is inscribed upon the cover
