Interesting Letter from Rabbi Yehoshua Czitran, Av Beis Din of Besmirin, Darag Dynasty

"
Winter days will come and we need to heat our beis midrash
so that the students will be able to learn."

Long, important letter from Rabbi Yehoshua Czitrin of Besmirin, thanking the Chevras Tomchei Torah of New York, headed by Rabbi Hillel HaCohen Klein, for their financial support.
Dated 1925, this letter gives a glimpse at the care and concern of Hungarian
rabbanim towards their students’ well-being. Among other things, Rabbi Yehoshua describes the poverty the majority of his students and how their donation helped these boys:
"I took (money) for one student for shoes… because he was going almost barefoot, and something to wear for another… I paid the Talmud Torah tuition for one poor student…"

R
abbi Yehoshua Czitron was the son of Rabbi Zev Wolf Czitron and son-in-law of Rabbi Shmuel Frenkel of Darag, author of Imrei Shefer. He served as Av Beis Din of Besmirin.
